Church of the Sacred Plants
Statement of Beliefs
The Church of the Sacred Plants (“Church”) is a spiritual community whose leaders, members
and participants believe that psilocybin mushrooms serve as a divine teacher and guide to those
who engage in its sacramental, ceremonial use. Our Sacrament reveals the divine teachings of the
universe. Our Sacrament is essential to our spiritual practice, and only through its sincere
religious use can participants understand the moral, ethical, and spiritual wisdom and
psychospiritual healing of its divine nature.
The Church is a place where you can bring your whole self: your full identity, your
questioning mind, and your expansive heart. You know, together, we create a force more
powerful than any one person or one belief system. Members of the Church do not have to
check their personal background or beliefs at the door to belong to this community: we join
together on a journey that honors everywhere, we’ve been before.
Our beliefs are diverse and inclusive. Church is a syncretic church that weaves eternal moral,
ethical, and spiritual guidance from many traditions into its practices and ceremonies. Church
leaders, members, and participants seek to live consistent with the moral, ethical, and spiritual
truth and love revealed by our divine Sacrament. Our Sacrament allows for a profound moral,
ethical and spiritual transformation within our members, guiding them to a deeper sense of self-
love and acceptance. Our shared covenant supports “the free and responsible search for truth and
meaning.”
- We share this “Sacred Path” together. We have all kinds of ways of naming what is called “sacred.”
- Some believe in a Sacred Living Force at work in the world, and call it “the Universe,” “love,” “the Great Mystery,” “Source,” “Spirit of Life,” or “the Unnamable One.” Call it by the name that suits you and your belief system.
- What we teach here is that all plants are sacred plants and have a Spirit and that Spirit is the strongest medicine!
- We believe that Spirit can heal the deepest reaches of our hearts and souls.
- We strive to discover the healing power of these Sacred Plants not merely for their physical medicinal properties, but for the deeper wisdom and the gifts that they offer.
- We seek to understand what it means to engage in an actual relationship or friendship with Sacred Plants.
- We encourage a personal connection with the Spirit of Plants in our local area as well as working with the Sacred Plants from distant places.
- We believe that ingesting Sacred Plant Medicine is a form of “doing healing work” with plants, but not plants as objects or chemical factories—but as “spiritual beings” alive, with feelings, and wisdom and are connected to the world around them, and to ourselves.
- We also believe the spirit of the Sacred Plant has the unique capacity to touch and heal the spirit of a human being.
- We affirm the Sacredness of Plant Medicine—meaning the medicine comes from the spirit of the plant.
- We affirm Sacred Plant Medicine is for the spirit of the people who are receivers of their work.
- We affirm that sacred plants are not just some sort of inferior, unintelligent being that offers nothing more than an opportunity for exploitation or enrichment, rather, they’re spirits themselves.
- We affirm that sacred plants are also beings -fully alive, fully aware, [and] full of feeling in a deep and sacred relationship to the world around us. We believe that the “livingness” of the plant is what we call “the plant spirit.”
- We respect the “livingness,” the wisdom and the awareness of the sacred plant as fellow beings.
- We embrace the view that plants don’t see themselves as individuals, they see themselves—as an expression of one overarching spirit.
- So we relate to the sacred plant spirits as we would with a “grandparent.” That title refers to somebody related to you. Somebody who loves you and cares about your welfare. Somebody who is much older than you and more experienced and wiser. Somebody who has a lot to offer you.
- We believe that the Sacred Plant Spirits don’t see themselves as separate from each other as individual plants. They see all of the world—including us human beings—as expressions of that same spirit. Therefore, we are all made of the same stuff—made of the same elements. And related. Sacred Plant Spirits see us all as family.
- So the Church of the Sacred Plants embraces all paths of a free and responsible search for truth and spiritual meaning.
- We believe that each being—human or plant, animal or insect, all beings, are a unique and individual expression of the Great and Mysterious Source of Life.
- We also believe that each and everyone is truly sacred and worthy of Love.
- The type of “spirituality” we embrace in this community is unbounded, drawing from scripture and science, nature and philosophy, personal experience, and ancient indigenous Amazonian traditions.
- We gather knowing that life is richer in community then it is when we go it alone.
- Church considers the following days to be holy days: summer and winter solstice, fall and spring equinox, all full moons and new moons, and days set aside to honor our spirit guides and protectors.
- Church believes that the spiritual use of our Sacrament may be done either in community or alone, focused on the intentions of the participant, with intentions to open up to the core wisdom of our spiritual beliefs.
- Ceremonies and use of Sacrament occur in compliance with dietary and lifestyle restrictions set out in other church guidance, including abstaining from alcohol and the use of drugs in the days leading up to ceremony.
- Members understand the Church provides its members with Sacrament as part of the sincere religious or spiritual use of psilocybin, with a good faith belief that the use and distribution of this Sacrament is protected by the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act and similar protections in each state’s Constitution. By acquiring any Sacrament, members affirm that they agree that these Sacraments are acquired and used for spiritual purposes consistent with these beliefs.
- Sacraments are always maintained consistent with a diversion prevention plan to ensure that no Sacraments are diverted from a religious purpose. By acquiring any Sacrament, members and participants affirm that they agree that these Sacraments are acquired and used for spiritual purposes consistent with these beliefs.
Mama Dose, LLC is the Church’s management company. This organization provides harm
reduction support, sacrament production and management, logistical and administrative support
under a formal management agreement but holds no decision-making authority in spiritual or
ethical matters. Mama Dose, LLC shares the spiritual values of the Church and engages in work
with the Church to further its spiritual beliefs.
